WHAT'S NEW - 22 august 2008

Hi everyone,

Welcome to our August update. Sorry we haven't written anything new for a while but we have been on a whirlwind trip taking in most of Ireland and then Newfoundland, and finally the amazing Folkworks Summer School, meaning we have hardly had time to scratch. Until today.

The eight-date Irish tour was a great success, sharing the stage with the one and only Andy Irvine, brilliant Aussie duo Kate Burke and Ruth Hazelton, and sensational Aussie Irish fiddler Ado Barker. Full tour diary and photos to follow... watch this space.

NAFCO 2008... aka the third North Atlantic Fiddle Convention, was held in St John's, Newfoundland over the first week of August and it was a tremendous honour to be invited - we had some terrific gigs and workshops and made lots of new friends. Huge thanks to Karen Cimer for taking us in for a week and taking us for a walk along a strip of coast where we saw huge majestic humpback whales breaching just off the land... it is a breathtaking thing to witness and was the highlight of our trip. Aberdeen will go back to being hosts for the event in 2010 and we can recommend it to anyone.

James had the juniors this year at Folkworks Summer School, and would like to thank each and everyone of the children as well as his fellow tutors for a truly amazing and energising week. Nancy had a great time teaching fiddle and song at the Youth summer school and also wants to send all her students a big thankyou for a great week. If you haven't experienced the joy of the wonderful week of music making, dancing and friendship that is the Folkworks Summer School... what have you been doing?!

This weekend we are the wonderful Shrewsbury Festival both as the duo and as Kerr Fagan Harbron. Hope to see lots of you there.
